Written By : Suzan Arslan

New challenges face students every year from increased reading to spelling lists to learning basic math facts. For any student wanting to excel in mathematics, memorizing math facts is a must. So, it’s imperative that parents help their children practice. But with many children studying many things, how is a parent supposed to keep up and make learning fun?

Schedule a specific time to study daily. Although many parents like to have their children finish all homework right after school, it seems that some kids are just too tired and desperately need a break. However, each family has its own routine and bed times, so every family has to select a time that works for everyone. It is recommended that all children work on homework at the same time, without the distraction of televisions, computers or radios. If one child does not have homework, ask them to do something productive quietly for that time.

A tried and true method for studying math facts is flash cards. But you can make flash cards fun by using stickers for right answers. You can also play memory with the cards or draw things on each one to help your child memorize them easier. Another trick may be in the way that you practice the cards. For example, put cards next to each other that are the same so that your children learn all the two’s one day or realizes that 2 x 5 is the same as 5 x 2.

Studying online can be fun and also allow you to help multiple children at once. Have your child spend ten minutes or even five minutes a day will make a big difference. Many web sites are free of charge and you may even be able to set the number of questions or upper limit number that your child is practicing.

Have a little extra time in the car and a DVD player? You might consider purchasing an interactive math facts DVD for the car. A lot of kids are watching the same movies over and over. Turn car potato time into learning time with educational DVD’s. If need be, create a system for rewards for watching and learning.

All children must memorize basic math facts to be successful at more difficult tasks. Parents should strive to help their children learn them to the point that there is nearly no delay between the time a question is asked and the answer is given. Being able to memorize these will also give the child confidence and increase their grades on regular exams as well as state or national assessments.

When I had my son, I did not know what are the challenges awaiting it in this big world. He began to overcome diabetes. It was a long and constant. It took us about 3 years, but now we have reduced a science. He knows exactly what to do and how to preserve his health. Once we have established a system, it was pretty easy for him.

He is now in its third year, and we reached the second biggest challenge / fight of his life math class. It is quite ironic, because my husband and I both a Masters in mechanical engineering and mathematics. We control very strong levels of math with relative ease. My son Cameron, fought on the other side to grasp the concept of multiplication. I had to help him find a way to address this issue. I thought I could do? Then it hit me, we have a strategy to overcome to get his health was developed. Why not develop a strategy for learning mathematical concepts and skills? So I developed the 3-step method that changes everything.

Step 1: Develop the skills in mathematics in real life

I show my son how we use math skills in real life. I tell you the fate of each day. For the department, for example, I preset this scenario: “. Please have 25 baseball cards and do it on your five best friends, How are you” If I told Cameron: “What is that 25 divided by 5? “It would just give me a funny. With a concrete example that motivated him to work for them.

Work on learning: Level 2

As soon as it meets the skills, it’s time for him, small steps towards their work and to take it. I often have 5 games math worksheets to print on a topic. There are many excellent places to find them available. On the first worksheet, I left work independently, without outside help. If it is blocked, it becomes solid.

Then we will go over everything. I bought a piece of white cardboard and a marker in the situation gum, I show how I do the problem in this forum. It makes it easy for him to see. How can we map the second and third on the success of the first page. If he was good, I left to work on these for themselves. When he fought, he will do all problems on the whiteboard. The fourth leaf, it is independent. We write the paper and save the table to do math last day, after we complete this process as a review.

Step 3: The War Flash Card

I have my son in a competition against my husband. I write the problems on the cards. Who answers first calls a point. Of course, my husband takes the time and made sure to only a point or two to stay away from my son. Frankly, this is the most effective step for my son. He tries so hard. I began to offer prizes for the winners. Nothing major, should see how hard a child of eight years of work for a cookie.

Once we have completed these steps, it is ready to go! It was extremely effective for Cameron. He started the school year with a 2 to 4, a note of mathematical skills. His most recent newsletter comes and he is now on the score of 4 on 4 levels. Hope this helps!

Solid experience in the technical disciplines is an essential element of modern education. Rapid advances in technology are increasingly important that young people receive a solid education in math and science skills and computer. Solid experience in these areas give youth the skills they need to thrive in the modern world. Unfortunately, it is often the most difficult topics to teach to young people.

Many students are quick to develop a dislike for mathematics and science at an early age. From my experience as an educator, there are three reasons for this aversion to mathematics and science. First, there is a wrong impression, but stronger than the scientific questions so difficult that they have an element of mystery as if it were completely beyond the comprehension of the average person. Second, some people see math and science as subjects very annoying because the storage or repetitive exercises that are used in order to be informed. A third obstacle to success in learning mathematics and science is the feeling that they are not important or relevant to everyday life.

Each parent or teacher who is able to technical subjects such as mathematics seem easy, fun and helps children in their care a great advantage later in their career choice is. The results of this benefit is particularly evident in the school if they choose to study areas of instruction and work.

In my experience, science lessons to students, I noticed that students who most people are without a struggle to master the basic arithmetic. Since mathematics is embedded in many scientific calculations, it can be overwhelming for both students learn science while struggling with basic arithmetic, that would have been mastered at a much younger age. If a teenager is a tendency to have a career in science or art, it is important that they receive thorough training in mathematics at an early age.

I saw many sad examples of students who were compassionate desire nurses, doctors and veterinarians will not be discouraged when the poor math skills, it is difficult for them to pass the course requirements. Development of mathematical skills at a young age will truly open the doors of opportunity for people in later life.

There are countless ways that parents can pay attention to the introduction or strengthening of the foundations of mathematics in a way that the children feel that it is something that is fun useful, and in their ability to learn. Since children are naturally attracted to the games from, a selection of game development, the mathematical components have to be very useful. Math games can be instructive, pleasant, and prove that mathematics can be useful for achieving a goal. By the age of the children, parents can also take a trip to the grocery store to be fun and a math lesson.

When shopping, children can be encouraged to add the cost of the terms as they are selected, the calculation of the bill on the road. Determination of the sales tax they are an exercise in percentages and multiplication. You can also encouraged to help identify different combinations of denominations of cash that can be used to pay the bill, and predict how much money you receive can be identified. A reward of your choice offered to encourage accurate calculations.

This approach can transform mundane to teachable moments in racing, and in fact shows the usefulness of mathematics in everyday life. If such exercises are a way of life, children come to the appropriation of a subject that they enjoy far more opportunities for their professional future.

Many people who have been teaching TEFL for awhile get tired of writing lesson plans. The benefit of writing them once is, you will not have to do them again. Make sure you always keep a copy of the lesson plan. It will help you later if you change jobs or work the same class next term.

Writing lesson plans does not have to be difficult and can be done within a few short minutes. Most schools have classroom books that you can use as a guide. If you have a 20 chapter workbook and your school year is 10 months, you know that you can use 2 chapters per month. Simple math will save you some headaches and worry.

If this is your first lesson plan, don’t panic. I will explain how to get going and get over the hurdle. If this is your 1000th lesson plan, this will help you also.

GETTING STARTED

1. If you have workbooks open it and see what they want you to teach. If it is the first day of school, open to chapter 1 and start there. If it is the 5th month of school open to chapter 5 and start there. When writing lesson plans common sense will prevail every time.

2. OK. Now you have the correct month and chapter all set. You are sitting looking at a page and, NOW WHAT? This will depend on the age group of your students. I have found teaching older students, that it is easier to prepare. The younger students need more stimulation and will loose interest fast. Always keep in mind whom you are teaching and what you are teaching. If you are teaching conversation or grammar, science, math all of these things will play a part in your lesson plans. FOR THE SAKE OF THIS ARTICLE, WE ARE STICKING WITH TEACHING CONVERSATION TO OLDER STUDENTS.

3. OLDER STUDENTS – I class them as high school aged. You are on chapter 1 of your workbook, or whatever month it is, and the subject is greetings and goodbyes. You look through this chapter and find the key words. The key words are the main points of the subject. Here we are doing greetings and goodbyes, so your key words will be like – hello, goodbye, good morning, good afternoon etc…. Most of your students will know these things already and you lesson will last 5 minutes. This is where you need to add supplement words like – what’s up, hows it going, later etc… add your own slang words that you are familiar with.

4. Don’t spend the entire class speaking and repeating these words, it will get boring fast. Instead use about 10 minutes of the class speaking and repeating these words. Then go around the class and have students use the words with you. *TEACHER: Good morning, Paiboon. *STUDENT: Good morning, teacher. You get the idea.

5. This will take up 20-30 minutes of class. You still have 20-30 minutes left, so now what? This is where your supplement worksheet will come in handy. Find a worksheet that uses greetings and goodbyes and have the students complete that. There are plenty of free worksheets out there, you just need to search and find one.

6. After the students have completed the worksheet call on students to stand up and read. Go around the room and have each student read the conversation with a friend. This will get them speaking and you can help them with pronunciation. If you still have time left, use the workbook for any extra work and have the students read aloud.

That is basically a one class lesson plan. As you gain more experience and get to know your students you may have to add material or spend more time on pronunciation. This is something you will have to decide for yourself.

One of the biggest mistakes a new teacher will make is to “assume your students want to learn English”. Most don’t want to be there and will have no interest. Try to keep the class moving and fun. If what you are doing is not working, move on to another area. Don’t try to force the students to speak every word, just keep the flow going and the time will be up faster.

Below is a sample lesson plan. Each place you work may their own lesson plan format and what they want on it. If not, you can use the one below as a guide to help you get started. It will give you an example of how to write this lesson out on paper. You can think of your lesson plan like a road map. If you have no map, you will not know where to go and when to stop.

CLASS: M1

DURATION: 50 minutes

MATERIALS: Workbook chapter 1, worksheet

VOCABULARY: Hello, Goodbye, Good Morning, Whats up, Later etc……

OBJECTIVE: Have the students know and understand greetings and goodbyes and use them in a conversation context.

PROCEDURE: Open the class with workbook and have students repeat the greeting and goodbyes (10 minutes). Go around the class and have student pairs use the words taught (10 minutes). Have the students complete the worksheet and practice using the vocabulary with pair speaking (15 minutes or more).

ASSESSMENT: This is important as it will help you see what worked and didn’t work. The students completed the workbook with no problems, but the worksheet seemed a little difficult. Will have to make an easier worksheet next time.

That’s it, a basic lesson plan idea and a simple lesson plan write up.

By: James Baker

About the Author:

Are your child’s math grades slipping? Despite trying very hard to get good math grades, is your youngster simply becoming frustrated? Have you considered online math tutoring? From the comfort of your own home, your son or daughter can get the help needed and deserved, without sacrificing after school activities and family time. Online math tutoring makes the grade, when you find the right provider.

Not all online math tutoring providers are created equal. Some sites are totally automated; other sites may have helps, but not necessarily in real time; maybe a website offers the services of a live tutor. But, does he/she have the education and skills needed to truly teacher your child and provide the motivation for math excellence?

If you really want to find online math tutoring that makes the grade, you will have to weed out thousands of sites that do not provide the skills and technology your youngster needs for a positive and proven learning experience. Here are some of the qualities you should demand in any math tutoring program:

A Graduate or Masters Degree in Mathematics Interactive Technology Individualized Lesson Plans A Trial Period More than One Tutoring Plan

You understand that your child deserves the best math education possible. Success as an adult may depend on making the math grade today. So, why should you expect less from your math tutor than the math teacher in the traditional classroom? A good math tutor should have a graduate or Masters Degree in Mathematics.

The teacher should have the skills and knowledge to help bring out your child’s best math skills, in a positive and comfortable learning environment. Your youngster should be able to trust the teacher to have his/her best interests at heart, and not simply be math tutoring online simply to make a buck via the Internet. It is okay to expect a real math teacher who genuinely cares about helping your child learn necessary math skills.

To help your child learn the necessary math skills, interactive technology is needed to help facilitate excellence in distance math education. Through ‘voice over Internet’ and web cams, your child and the teacher should be able to see, hear, and communicate with each other during every session.

Any good math teacher models the problems and monitors a student who is practicing the concepts that have been learned. You should expect nothing less from an online tutoring session. Your child deserves to have proven methods and resources available for optimal success in learning math skills.

While learning math skills, a good online math tutoring provider will implement the same textbook used in the traditional classroom setting. Preparation, reinforcement, and repetition, are often the key to helping a child learn and retain the information regarding new math skills. Oftentimes, it only takes a little one-on-one attention to make a big difference in a math grade.

In addition to individualized lessons designed specifically for your child’s needs, a good online math tutoring provider will be confident in proven math teaching techniques. So, a trial period should be offered, to ensure that distance math learning is right for your child and your circumstances.

Then, once you are sure your child will benefit from online math tutoring, it will also be easier to determine what tutoring plan is needed. Maybe your son or daughter will require daily math support after school. Conversely, he/she might only need occasional help with particularly difficult homework assignments. Thus, you should have the option to select the plan that will help your child improve his/her math grade.

Online math tutoring can make the grade. Now that you know what to look for in a math tutor, you can make an informed decision. Then, you child will soon be receiving the math support he/she deserves, and needs, to become a successful adult.

By: Shalabh Agrawal

About the Author:

It aims to be a sort of virtual Noah’s Ark that will preserve footage, facts and photos of currently endangered animals for future generations to enjoy. ?

The ARKive is an absolute goldmine for quirky facts and fascinating animals (and plants and fungi) and can be used for science lesson plans of all types, not just when teaching about extinction and conservation.?Lessons on classification, adaptation and habitats can all include a visit to the ARKIve’s website – or its younger version, Planet ARKive, which teachers in Grade 2 to Grade 6 will find helpful.?If you’ve mastered the art of using small video clips as part of your science lesson plans, you will have plenty to choose from. ?

Now, this ARKive is still under construction, and is still hunting for footage of some plants, animals and fungi.?If you teach in an area where one of the rare and endangered animals/plants/fungi still lives, you might be able to create a few science lesson plans or even a unit that culminates in a field trip to find and film the life form in question – you never know; you may strike it lucky and get some very valuable footage.?And even if you don’t, your class will have had one of the most memorable science lessons they will ever have. ?

The ARKive is very teacher-friendly as well as pupil-friendly and has a few science lesson plans ready made on the site – well worth checking out!?But don’t forget to use this valuable and fascinating site even if you aren’t a science teacher and science lesson plans aren’t really useful for you. ?

English:?Some of the endangered animals have really quirky names??How about showing your class some footage of the animal without showing the name of the animal and then getting your students to create a name for it?? ?

Math:?The ARKive has some startling facts and figures related to extinction that can be used in a maths class.?For example, if one species becomes extinct every twenty minutes, how many species is that per day??Per week??This will be a very sobering lesson… ?

The ARKive is just one of many valuable and fascinating websites that have multiple uses in the classroom.?Don’t let the words “technology integration” scare you. Standard methods for using media in your elementary lessons are still the benchmark for an effective lesson. Technology should be seen as just another tool in your lesson-not the lesson.

By: Kimberly Stohlman

About the Author:

Information gap activities are those in which students exchange information in order to complete a required lesson plan activity.

Most information gap activities are done in pairs, with each student having a part of the information. They are especially effective when used as vocabulary activities during the pre-reading part of a reading lesson, but they can also be applied to reading comprehension and math activities as well.

For example, this strategy can be used to teach new vocabulary from a passage students haven’t yet read. Student A would have the vocabulary words written on strips of paper and student B would have the definitions of those words. Working together, they pair words and definitions to learn new vocabulary.

Vocabulary Activities

Information gap activities such as the example below function as vocabulary lessons after students have already encountered the vocabulary in the text.

Teacher and/or class prepare 2 lists of about 20 items. List A contains people and animals. List B contains objects. The aim is to combine one words from List A with one from List B. Example: What can a/an A do with a/an B? Why does a/an A need a/an B? Students create a list of combinations.

Or, Student A has pictures of newly introduced words and student B has the matching words. When matched correctly, they create an interesting shape.

Math Activities

The same principles of information gap activities can also be applied to Math lesson. Student A measures triangles of various sizes while student B measures circles of various sizes. Together, they answer questions that relate to the relationship between them.

Reading Comprehension Activities

An information gap activity can also be used as a main reading task when students need to share information they read from an assigned passage. An especially effective information gap activity is A jigsaw reading which is a type of activity that is done usually in groups. In a jigsaw reading, the teacher can use academic texts or texts from the students’ coursebook.

In the traditional method of jigsaw reading, the teacher divides a text into sections and assigns each group a section to read. Each group is responsible for understanding its part. Then new groups are formed with one member from each previous team. The new groups now have one representative from each section and each can share what s/he understood from his or her part of text. Students then can either write a summary of the text or answer questions about the entire text.

How An Information Gap Activity Should Be Structured

Consider also the following main issues in your lesson plans:

* Purpose: What is the purpose of the activity? For example, is the purpose to introduce, reinforce, use or bridge the gap between letters and their corresponding sounds? Or, is the purpose to reinforce words and their meanings?

* Organization: Who is in control – the class or the teacher? Once you develop the necessary classroom management skills, you can effectively implement information gap activities.

* Length of Lesson: The element of time must be considered. How long will this activity take?

* Ability level: Consider the ability of the class, homogeneous or heterogeneous groupings, and adaptations such as a backup plan when students can’t do the activity as planned.

* Materials and procedures: What is needed for the lesson? How will the teacher present information gap activities.

* Who? The level of the students including the ability and grade.

* What? What is the context for your information gap activity?

* How? Through which new points will the main skills be introduced? Example: Will students need to read a passage containing the new words before matching words and their corresponding definitions in pair work?

Possible Problems Using An Activity on an Information Gap

What if your lesson didn’t go as planned? A potentially well planned information gap lesson can backfire due to neglect of one of the main planning issues (see above).

Classroom management is typically the reason why information gap activities do not go as planned. It is worthwhile to invest time therefore, in the principles of classroom management before implementing any information gap activity.

Information gap activities are user-friendly for the teacher to recycle previously taught information. Some will take more time to implement, but it is an investment well worth the effort.

By: Dorit Sasson

About the Author:

People may think that the key to effective math tutoring, tuition, or in any area also depends on the recognition that the teacher brings to the table. Although the information is not on the field certainly important if one guardian to be effective, more important is the capacity of guardian of buying your child succeed him the necessary confidence in mathematics subject at hand . During my many years of math tutoring for students who come to know that I knew my field site, but more importantly, they came to know that I refer them to a very personal level. Manufactured according to this aspect of the tutor-student relationship is much more effective tutoring.

Whether you are with the slow learners, learns quickly, or between learners that you get as a tutor in mathematics should be the head of the student and determine what is working or passing. You should also check if your students including auditory learners, visual learners, tactile learners, or a mixture of both. no doubt wrong, where the interests of your students and your speed of refurbishing the difficult question of that interest. So if the sport is dear Johnny, the algebra student in trouble, you should try your lessons center around sports and throw in some sports issues at meetings. For example, problems in the rehabilitation of Johnny with the equations of decimal places, you can decimals and percentages using batting averages as a pitcher ERA (ERA) program. In dealing with the problems of projectile motion, of course, use quart favorite Johnny, that’s football, which is determined by solving the equation, thrown into the air.

Techniques such as those mentioned above not only the interest for the subject, but also show how the student can refer such courses seemingly unimportant at the high school students actually returned and the rich world of interest. Remember, you can understand both differential and integral calculus, but if you do not teach your students to navigate these waters, your knowledge is essentially selfish. Identify with students and tutors, and watch them grow better learners and teachers improve.

Do you really think these two careers are so different? I always thought they were. I was a good math teacher for 15 years in some very prestigious school, and I’m trying to find success in Internet marketing. On my way to work the other day I found some interesting parallels.

1. Contact immediately. In today’s world of “helicopter parents,” the best thing you can do is tell the parents of your students by e-mail that you communicate regularly with them about your class and their children. I send group e-mails after the first week and I trust them to write the first teacher. How can this be applied to your down line? It works exactly the same way.

2. be reliable. As a teacher who has “great power” has taught school districts, I have to go to people what they want and they know the value of hard work and faithful people and the respect of these properties are used treaties. They do with people who are reliable and give their best effort when it comes to working for their children. How do you think people feel the money on a home business of their sponsors?

3. Offer something more or give something for free. All parents know I’m there for her child. You know, I’ll help others during my free periods or lunch to give to help their child succeed in my class. I offer after school as well. In addition, I tutor students and to treat it like a business with the highest ethics. I never charge for the extension and were rewarded in the end. Most tuition is made recommendations to this point. Again, how these careers are so different?

If I started a home business, I thought I’d be totally out of my area and I read everything I could about Internet marketing. Only recently, however, I find that some of my most effective ways of engaging with parents has also been my most effective ways to fight against my downstream and people who want to work with me in general. I like both careers meet.

“Who was your favorite math teacher?” I hope you have an answer to this question. The big question is: “Who is this person from?” The list of properties “special teachers” are usually a lot of time and help all these qualities to the fact that he has succeeded. But what qualities make a good mathematics teacher? Regardless of the content or object …

mathematics teachers who are successful at:

1. Have a good relationship with students and their parents. These instructors know that students often have little fear of mathematics and parents sometimes have negative feelings about mathematics from their own memories of school days. increase for the school year to a good start, these concerns are addressed quickly, and these teachers are able to do so skillfully.

2. Convey “They are able to learn this” attitude. Very young children entering school do not know what mathematics is. Older students begin each year, the fear that this class will be those who can not do. Students fear of failure. The math teacher is able to successfully keep students focused on success. Encourage them to redouble their efforts to increase student persistence to make it suitable for students who need extra help, and they work with parents as needed.

3. Explain the concepts of different ways. (Statements multi-directional.) We’ve probably all known someone is a math teacher to explain a concept that can only seemed a way. When asked a question, the same answer was repeated. This is not good enough. Different students need different explanations. Mathematics teachers can successfully explain concepts, different approaches.

4. Keep lessons short, successful, interesting and perhaps with much processing time. These teachers are well trained and best teaching practices based on research. In addition, these techniques suitable for use to make their own strengths.

5. Be good for the task analysis. In mathematics, perhaps the most important skill. All mathematics teachers have been seen at any time experience the presentation of a subject, a class should recognize the face of every student. Instead, see the faces looking white only. The teacher looks back wondering what was wrong exactly. This task analysis comes in. The success of mathematics teachers need to think very quickly, which has been only imagine what skills students already have procedures to understand the new theme, and then evaluate skill (s) is / are obviously missing. This lack of knowledge must be resolved before the new theme will be heard.

The education would be so much better if it could be quickly taught these skills in a college education courses, and we can and want to tell our new math teacher that they are all necessary skills, but we all know, there’s much difference between knowing what to do and be able to do so. These skills take time to develop. Some people are never in the task analysis. math teachers trained are literally worth their weight in gold. We must honor them. And maybe even pay for what they are worth!
